Q: What's the Top Reason for Workplace Discipline?

A: Internet Misusue



 In the U.K. E-mail and Internet abuse is now the number one reason for disciplinary action among companies.  In 2002 over the course of 12 months. There were 358 cases for e-mail and Internet abuse in one company. That was 10 years ago and cases like these continue to occur 10 years later as the Internet becomes one of the main source of communication. Out of the 358 cases brought, 69 people were disciplined for excessive amounts of time using , 64 were disciplined for  Pornographic e-mails. Of the 64 25 were fired.  
 
Why is this article posted 10 years ago yet this is still a relevant? 
The problem is many people use the Internet at home for personal use (social media, porn, etc.) and then bring those personal habits to work. Also, most companies have policies that they do not enforce.  Employee should frequently update employees about their policies, this does not occur as well.

With the internet becoming more and more relevant employers need to crack down on their methods to monitor their employees at work. We ask that you all tell us what non-work related things you at  work while your boss is not looking? What would happen if you got caught? How would you respond to your bosses actions?
